Circuit Breaker Box Installation Steps

A circuit breaker box installation is an easy task but you must be extremely careful. There are a few steps for a circuit breaker box installation. Always be sure you are extremely careful when working with anything electrical. If you are unsure what you are doing or afraid, call an electrician.

The first thing you need to do is clear away any standing water that might be near you or near the breaker box. Be sure your shoes are rubber so you are grounded. If you are not wearing rubber shoes, use a rubber mat on the floor and stand on it throughout the duration of the installation.

When installing a circuit breaker box turn off the main power switch to the breaker box. This will shut all of the electricity to the entire home. The metal circuit breaker panel encasing the breakers needs to be removed. You will most likely need a screwdriver to remove this panel. Take the metal panel off and set it to the side.

It is always best to test the circuit breaker with a voltmeter. If you are not sure how to use a voltmeter, you will place one prong of the meter on a ‘hot’ terminal and the other prong on a grounding terminal on the circuit box. Even though you shut the power off to the breaker, it is always best to verify the electricity is off when you install circuit breaker box in panel box. No electricity should register on the voltmeter. This will verify the circuit breaker is safe to work on.

The next step is to pop out the old breaker and unscrew the wires from each terminal. Pay attention or write down where each wire goes because when you replace them, they need to be in the same place. Before you put the new circuit breaker in, be sure to verify it is in the ‘off’ position. Match each of the wires up on the new breaker to the appropriate terminal as they were in the old breaker. Fit the wires properly in place and tighten the screws.

The final step of a circuit breaker box installation is to snap in the new circuit breaker and turn on the main power switch. Be sure to test the new circuit breaker with the voltmeter. This test will light up and register voltage. Noe you know how to replace circuit breaker boxes
